There are three basic components to the SMCIHN program:
Host Congregations
Each of our twelve host congregations, usually assisted by one or more support congregations, hosts three to five families (up to 14 adults and children) for one to two weeks at a time during the hours of 6 pm to 7 am, up to six times a year. During each day of their stay, guests are provided with a home cooked, sit-down dinner served family style, a private sleeping space for each family, breakfast and a bag lunch.
Hosts also provide entertainment in the form of games, crafts, homework assistance or other activities for the children and the opportunity for adults to join these activities or relax with a book or video or chat with hosts in a separate quiet area set aside for this purpose.   Consequently, IHN guests are embraced in an environment of tremendous support and friendship..
Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart of the Network; without them it cannot exist. Volunteers provide a variety of services: cooking and serving meals, playing with children or helping with homework, and staying overnight.
Day Center
Daytime hours may be spent at our Day Center, a remodeled office suite provided at low cost by Mills-Peninsula Hospital at 1720 El Camino in Burlingame. The Day Center provides guests with showers, laundry machines and storage, as well as computers to help with searches for jobs, job training, resume writing and housing.  Here, families also receive case management and referrals to private and public resources that will help them meet their goal of long-term self-sufficiency.
