The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) of San Mateo provides emergency (60 day) shelter and three meals every day to homeless families with children. The IHN program focuses on intensive personalized case management, tremendous community support, and innovative solutions for securing employment and permanent housing that lead to faster, more effective and lasting outcomes in the lives of families.
IHN provides successful family care through a small staff (7 staff, 3.4 FTE’s) that operates in a central Day Center in Burlingame and that provides comprehensive supportive services to promote long-term self-sufficiency. Services include: aiding parents in obtaining employment; job and skills training; childcare solutions to allow especially single parents the opportunity to work; housing opportunities; and advocacy to help families work through a maze of often conflicting social service resources and requirements. IHN also makes referrals from an extensive database of public and private providers to meet unique medical, legal, and financial needs. The Day Center is open seven days a week, twelve hours a day to allow families a home environment to conduct their life activities. The Day Center provides shower and laundry facilities, secure storage, children's nap and play areas, and a computer lab for homework and job searches.
